Our History: Project Place is a 40-year-old nonprofit agency that serves homelss men and women in the Boston area. Founded in 1967 as a safe haven for runaway and drug addicted teenagers, Project Place has evolved over the years in response to changing community needs. In the early 1980's, the agency shifted its focus to adults, reflecting changes in Boston's homeless population. Currently we offer several job training, supportive employment and adult education programs with the flexibility and range to work with people at various skill levels. These services help individuals experiencing homelessness reestablish themselves in society with dignity. All programming is coupled with case management to help clients address the barriers they face in their transition to self-reliance. Over 600 men and women benefit from our programs each year.
Our Future: In February 2007 Project Place moved to it new home at 1145 Washington Street, which now houses our program space, an upcoming new South End restaurant and 14 units of affordable housing for homeless men and women. This inititative is a natural extension of our mission and work to combat homelessness. Having built a solid foundation of programs to support life changes, enhance life skills and provide training and opportunities for meaningful employment, affordable housing is the next logical step in a continuum of services for homeless adults.
